I have made working out part of my daily routine, but I fall off my routine, as we all do. Sometimes it is easy for me to jump right back into the routine of working out at 6am, but sometimes it is not easy. I recently had a week where I struggled to find the motivation to work out. I just was not excited to work out, but I took a few of my tips below and found the drive to get back into my routine. Keep reading for 10 tips to find your workout motivation with Peloton.

Workout Motivation with Peloton
The suggestions here will work if you have Peloton equipment or just use the App. I have the Peloton bike and row, but I do not use the equipment every single day. I love the Peloton App and incorporate you and strength training into my weekly workouts when I do not use the bike or row.
Who am I?
I am not an athlete, a body builder, a runner or a yogi. I am a somewhat in shape, nearing 40 year old mom of two. Prior to having my first child, I went to the gym regularly, attending weekly weight lifting and yoga classes. I purchased the Peloton bike a few months after my first child was born. I knew realistically I would never be able to get to the gym like I used to with a young child at home and working full time as a lawyer. I wanted to invest in some equipment to have at home to replace my gym membership. I quickly fell in love with the bike and cancelled my gym membership.
I used the Peloton bike and the workout classes for years until I was pregnant again. During my second pregnancy I was not as consistent with my workouts. As soon as I got the all clear by my doctor, I started using the bike (albeit, very slowly and gently). I was out of shape, missed exercising and had 40 pounds to lose.
It was about a year after I started working out again that the Peloton row was released. At that point I was working out regularly on the bike and trying to incorporate more weight lifting. After four years of using one piece of equipment at home, I was excited to add another piece of equipment to my home gym. I purchased the row at the end of December 2022, with delivery in early January.
I have lost the 40 pounds of baby weight gained during my second pregnancy and I am feeling good about my body. I am not trying to lose any weight. I want to be healthy and strong for me. I also need to be healthy for my kids, and be able to chase them and play with them all day. I wrote about my workout schedule in a blog post you can find here.
10 Tips to Find Your Workout Motivation with Peloton
1. Join a Peloton challenge.
Peloton has a yearly challenge and monthly challenges that you can enter into. If you need motivation, try to complete one of the monthly challenges. For example- a challenge would be to take 5 strength classes in a month (see below). This is a great goal and a great way to find your next workout: Focus on completing a challenge. The yearly challenge keeps track of how many minutes you have worked out in a year, this isn’t a huge motivation factor for me- although I do like to compete with my husband on who has worked out more each month. There is a challenge tab in the App or on the equipment where you can find the current challenges and the challenges for the next month.
Here is an example of a strength challenge:

2. Pick a workout based on the music.
Sometime I don’t know what workout to take and with so many options it can be hard to just pick a class. So, find an artist you like in an artist series and take one of those classes. Even if you end up not liking the workout, if it is an artist you like, then you will probably at least enjoy the class. For example, there is a Taylor Swift series, with a ride, yoga and core classes, each of which I think are great classes.
Also, look for classes that have music by an artist that you like. Leanne has an AMAZING ride with just music by Celine Dion. This isn’t an artist series (so you wouldn’t find in the artist series list), but just a ride with all music by Celine. It is an amazing ride with great music. Finding this ride also helped introduce me to Leanne, I had never taken one of her rides before this class and I have added her into my rotation of instructors I like!
3. Make your own challenge.
Last month I lost my workout motivation. So I am challenging myself this month to do a workout every day in May. I did the Peloton challenge to do a workout every day in January and I completed it and ended up really getting into a good workout routine., I am doing the same thing in May without a formal Peloton challenge.
4. Try a class with an instructor that is new to you or that you have not taken a class with recently.
When I lost my motivation to workout last month, I even lost my motivation to take a yoga class every Monday, which is a staple in my workout schedule. So, I clicked on a class by instructors I normally do not use for yoga classes. And- it worked! I took a class with Ross and now I am hooked. I am really looking forward to taking my next class with Ross.
5. Try a new workout class.
There are so many workout options on Peloton, so it is easy to pick what you know and keep taking the classes you like. But, I have to spice it up every once and a while. I did just that this week, I took a morning yoga class. The class was a little slow for me and honestly not my favorite class, but I am glad I tried something new. And I was then motivated to go back and take a power yoga in the morning to get my day started!

6. Take a class you have taken before and loved!
I do this ALL the time- I have a list of classes that I just love. When I do not know what class to take or I am just not motivated- I click on a class that I know I enjoyed. I have a Sweat Steady ride with Jess King that I taken numerous times. I love her vibe, the music selection and I know I will end up really sweaty after the ride. I like to challenge myself and compete against myself (which you can do with the filter option in the window that shows all the people who have ever taken the class). I also love to take Leanne’s Celine Dion ride I mentioned earlier and when I am completely lost as to what workout class to do, I know I can take this class and enjoy a half hour of great music.
7. Put on nice workout clothes to inspire your workout motivation with Peloton.
Hear me out on this one. I know you are working out at home, but doesn’t it feel great to put on a nice outfit for working out? When I first started with Peloton I was a few months postpartum and still wearing maternity leggings. I put on oversized clothes and never felt like having fun while working out. Now I put on a pair of bright colored leggings and a flow yoga top to workout in and I feel cute. Only my husband and kids see me in these clothes, but I like how I feel in them and I am excited to work out in these clothes. You do not have to spend a fortune on workout clothes. Amazon has amazing options.
Leggings: Colorfulkoala available on Amazon here has a ton of great colors. These leggings are true to size, super soft and wash amazingly. I have a ton of colors of these leggings, which are my go to when working out.
Shirts: Amazon has a ton of affordable options under $20.00 for shirts. I have this one here from ICTIVE, which comes in a ton of colors, is sleeveless and has some cute mesh design on the back. I like this one here for the design on the back.
On the topic of clothing, make sure if you wear a shorts bra, that you have a good quality one that fits. This is a very personal item and you may have to go through a few to find the perfect sports bra for you. I have yet to find the perfect sports bra, but I keeping try to find the “one.”

8. Follow instructors on social media to inspire your workout motivation with Peloton.
I know this sounds cheesy but some of the instructors are very present on social media. Seeing them post about classes often inspires me to take certain classes. Seeing other people working out can be a great motivation!
9. Take a live class.
Check the schedule for live classes and take one. It is exciting to take a class live, knowing there are other people out there taking the same class. Maybe you will every get a shout out from the instructor! I recently got a shot out form Alex on my 50th row class. I had no idea I was on my 50th ride, so it was very exciting!
Also if you “sign up” to take a live class, you will may just be more likely to actually show up and take it. Just like a. real gym class, you feel like you have committed to taking the class.
10. Just Ride or Just Row.
If you have a bike or row, there is a feature to just bike or row with a black screen. You can put on your own music and just go. Sometimes it is nice to just do what you want on your equipment and not take instructions. It can be relaxing to just pedal (or row) at your own pace or to make up your own workout.

Finding your workout motivation with Peloton
Finding your motivation to workout can be hard. We know working out is good for us and then we will (probably) feel better for taking the time to do a workout, but sometimes we just don’t want to. And that is okay too. Sometimes you need a break from working out- giving you body break is always a good idea and sometimes you need to take a break because life gets busy. I find if I miss a few days, it is really hard for me to get back into my routine of working out.
