I am new to being a stay at home mom [read about my first month here] and hoped that now that I quit my job I would have more time to do things I have wanted to do for years but never had the chance to. The reality is that I have a one year old and a four year old, so my days at home are very busy. However, I still want to find things each day that I can do for myself. If you are a SAHM then you need to do the same- finding the time to do one small thing for myself each day makes me feel accomplished and relaxes me. Keep reading for a list of activities for a stay at home mom to do for you each day:

Read a book. Hear me out. You can read while at home with small children. You (may) have nap time of course, but what about when you child is coloring or watching the 10th episode of Cocomelon. You can find 5 minutes blocks during the day to read. The key here is to have your book on you at all times on your phone or tablet.
Learn a new Language. Again, hear me out, you are not going to learn a new language in the next month or even the next year, but you can work towards the goal in 5 minutes a day. Learning a new language has been a goal/dream of mine for years. I am actively learning Spanish now through the use of Doulingo. I commit to a few minutes once a day to bettering myself and reaching my goal.
Pinterest. I have loaded up my Pinterest Boards with activities, crafts and recipes I can’t wait to try. I am planning for the future and daydreaming a little on Pinterest has been a lot of fun.
Calm tea. I love coffee, but I have been consistently drinking this specific calm teat each day in the afternoon (after my afternoon coffee). it is a nice routine and I am not sure it makes me calm, but the act of drinking a soothing tea is just nice.
Do your nails. I am not getting out of the house to get my nails done, in fact the last time I got my nails done was over a year ago and was an absolute treat for my anniversary. I actually like doing my nails at home. I have a few inexpensive tools that help me do my nails at home and keep them looking nice. Now, I don’t sit down and do an entire nail care routine in one sitting, it may take a few days, but I like doing it and love the results. I am not a nail technician, but here are my at home tools that I like to use to do my nails at home:
Cuticle Oil. I like this stick because it is just neater than any other oil I have ever used.
Cuticle Remover: This is a key item to me to getting a salon look at home.
Cuticle Pusher: You need a pusher to use with the cuticle remover. I have had mine for years, I just clean it well after each use.
I have tried a lot of nail files in my life. These inexpensive Revlon files are my favorite.
I also love the simple Revlon buffer. I have tried over a dozen different buffers but always come back to this one. It works, has a good shape and is an amazing price.
Do nothing. This is so hard for me. If my kids are playing quietly or watching tv, I feel like I have to be productive. I will clean the counters, vacuum, or make a phone call. But I try to remind myself that I can just sit for 5 minutes and relax. I had to add that to the list because that is something you can also do for yourself.
Being a SAHM is hard. It is easy to lose yourself in the daily activities it takes to run a house and care for your children. You have very limited time to yourself but make that time count. So many moms I know drown in every day life of being at home with kids- and I have found myself feeling like that. Taking a few minutes to do something for myself or to work towards a goal of mine is health and helps me feel productive. I also like explaining to my kids that I read for enjoyment or that I am learning a language- because I want to instill a value of education on them. So pick something from this list and just do it tomorrow- download that language app you have been wanting to try or buff your nails!
What is a five minute activity you like to do as a SAHM just for yourself?
