I love birthday parties. And I love puns. So I absolutely love birthday party theme that is also a pun- and will make people chuckle. I knew when my daughter was only a few months old that we would be having a “Wild One” themed party for her first birthday party I love leopard print- and did a whole party theme with wild animals and leopard print. It was great. I have put together an amazing list of first birthday party themes with fun puns.

I originally posted these 7 themes in November 2022 and the post was a hit! (Here is a link to the original). I wanted to update this list with some more examples and links to help you plan a party.
Pick Your Theme First!
Have fun with picking a theme! While you do not need a theme, I find it very helpful to pick a theme when planning a party because it helps me plan and decorate! Once I have a theme, I find planning the party becomes much easier. For example, once you have a theme, you can pick out invitations, decor, food, games, the Birthday kids outfit, music and goodie bags based around the theme.
7 Unique First Birthday Party Themes With Fun Puns
I love a cheesy theme. It helps give you a base to start planning the party. Below are 7 unique birthday party themes that I love, that each have a fun pun.
- Wild ONE.
- Animal prints, safari decor. Wild ONE is a great theme. Keep reading for my decor from my daughters first birthday party, which was a Wild ONE theme.

- A golf themed party for your little one.
- This would be really cute for an outdoor party, a little putting green and your little one in a little golfers outfit.
- ONE in a million.
- You can use this title for a lot of themes- poker, lottery, or even a Vegas style party.
- A Vegas style party would be so much fun to decorate for, with tons of gold everything. The first birthday party is for adults, so why not play some poker?

Wild ONE Party Decor
I love making my own decor for parties and searching Amazon for decor and party necessities. For my daughters first birthday we went with a Wild ONE theme. I have to show off some of the decor I made and some that I purchased.
First, I made this a cute direction/welcome sign.

I wrote an entire blog post about this sign, check it out here. I love personalized touches and that this sign is now decor in my daughters room, so I continue to enjoy it and think of her first birthday party every day.
Another way I incorporated the theme into the decor was through the centerpieces. Her party was in a local restaurant, so we had large tables set up to decorate. I purchased balloon centerpieces from Amazon with different animal themes. I had to put the centerpieces together, but it could not have simpler. I love these balloon centerpieces because they make a big impact for a small price. Each table had its own animal centerpiece and the room was filled with color.
I love the tables came out, here is a picture from the party:

I did not see this when I was decorating for my Wild ONE party, but I love some statement pieces, like this:
A few larger statement pieces set the stage for your theme. Plus what one year old wouldn’t love this large balloon?
I think a few key “theme” pieces were enough for my daughters first party. The party felt like a “Wild ONE” party without looking crazy and I did not spend a fortune on the party decor.
Keep in mind when decorating for a themed party, every single decor item does not need to be in theme. Too much decor in the theme would look overwhelming, plus would make decorating a nightmare. Napkins, plates, cups, and balloons can be in these simple colors, rather than the themed. This will save you money. Plus, whatever you do not use for your party can be reused for another party.
What is your favorite pun filled theme for a first birthday party?
