If your kids go to daycare or you are getting ready to send your child to daycare there is one item you absolutely need to purchase. This one item will save you time in the morning when trying to get out the door and help you from losing items at daycare. This item is a daycare necessity, seriously- a label maker.
My children’s daycare recommends using masking tape and a marker to write your child’s name on everything. But after two years of writing out my child’s name every morning on every item- I finally bought a label maker.

Now, there are companies that make personalized stickers and I have heard those stickers are great. But with two kids and about 100 items per child to label, I would be purchasing stickers every other month. Sadly, I am not joking about 100 items to label- sheets, blankets, towels, bowls, spoons, bibs, every item of clothing, you get the picture, there is a lot you need to label.
Seriously, my label maker is a daycare necessity
A label maker is the single best item I purchased to help me label items quickly and help my kids stuff from getting lost. A label maker has a ton of uses and I have used it to organize my linen closet, the kids craft bins and even garden labels. But the first purpose I bought it for, to label items for daycare, has been the greatest time saver.
The label maker I have is the Brother, P-touch PTD210 label maker. Amazon has a lot of options, but after reading the reviews, this label maker seemed the most user friendly. Some of the reviews complained of battery life, but I personally have not had a problem. An AC power adaptor is available to purchase. I use the label maker very often and have yet to replace the batteries. It is a small label maker, but has a full sized, easy to use keyboard. The label maker has some font options, different sizes and even pictures and frames. The font options are fun to play with and have helped me with some projects.
The tape comes in different colors and even clear. Here is a link to the tape replacement I bought which worked perfectly with the machine.
Will the label last?
After six months of use, this label maker has been used daily. And- the labels really hold up. I have put the labels on bowls and bowl lids, which go through the dishwasher daily. The stickers will not last forever, but they have some real staying power. The labels have also gone through the wash numerous times and still look great. I regret not buying a label maker sooner.
You will need a lot of stuff for your child when they go to daycare. Make sure you purchase a label maker so you are not repurchasing items that have disappeared at daycare! This is a true daycare necessity.
