Well it is the time of year when I start thinking about the holidays. I love gift guides, and with two young children (a daughter who is just one and a son who is almost) I know a thing or two about toys. The reality is, my kids have WAY too many toys. So when someone is asking for suggestions of toys to buy my children, I suggest toys that have longevity- something that they will play with more than once and that they will not break in a week. I want to pass on some toys that meet this criteria with a toddler gift guide of toys that your kids will use all year long.

Toddler Gift Guide:
Clay
I love toys that inspire creativity- and clay is one of those items for my kids. From ages 1 to 4, my son has loved to play with clay and now at age 1, my daughter has started to play with clay. What I love about clay is that how my children play with it has evolved as they age. My son used to just play with the clay by smashing- but now he loves to use make shapes or “snakes.” Clay can be made into anything with a toddler’s imagination. My son now loves Playdough play sets, which have different tools to use to build items with the playdough.
Here are some amazing sets I recommend:
Here is some great playdough dough sets:
Duplo Lego Sets.
These sets are amazing and perfect for ages 18 months/2 years+, however with some supervision, I let my daughter who is 1 play with the sets. These Duplo sets are the perfect size for toddlers to build and create. The blocks are big enough that a toddler can put together without getting frustrated, which is an important feature of these block. Blocks can be used to create anything, my son will take a block set and make it into anything he images, which I love to watch.
Here are two Duplo sets that my kids would LOVE:
Dot Marker Activity Books.
I did not know what dot marker activity books were until about a year ago. Basically, it is a color book designed for a child to use with a BINGO marker. It is a simple activity book for a young child. I love that some of the activity books I have for my son teach letters, so I feel that there is some educational value to these books.
Here is a book my son has and almost filled up already:
Flap Books.
I always recommend books are a gift when people ask what to buy for my children. I love to read to my kids before bed and if you have kids, you know that books can get destroyed very easily, so having some new ones to put into rotation is always good. My kids love flap books (which are particularly easy to destroy). Books are an amazing way to entertain your children- besides just reading to your child, books make great toys to play with in the car and to play with during quiet time. People often overlook books as a gift, but I think books are an amazing gift that a child will use and enjoy over and over again.
Here are a few my kids love and want to reach constantly:
Toy Cars and Trucks.
Vehicle toys are a major hit with both my kids. They are both obsessed with cars and busses, and are now old enough to “race” the cars. Again, these are toys I have found truly spark my children’s imaginations. My son is always making up stories about the car, where it is going or who is driving. According to my on, you can never have too many car toys.
My son would be obsessed with these vehicles I found on Amazon:
